SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In game one of the two game series against San Diego State, the Toreros fell 5-2 as the Aztecs picked up the win over the USD.
The Toreros fall to 10-12 on the season as the Aztecs improve to 21-14. SDSU moves ahead in the series 3-32 overall against the Toreros.
The Aztecs picked up one run through the first three innings followed by two runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
The Toreros put together a rally in the seventh inning. Celeste Soto lead off with a single to third base to lead off the inning and advanced to second base on a Kimberlee Shimizu single through the left side. Both Soto and Shimizu would advance a base on a pass ball putting them both in scoring position, and both would move up again on another pass ball as Soto scored and Shimizu moved to third cutting the Aztec lead to 5-1. Lauren Tomey would get on base with a walk. Kylie Ordos flied out to right field followed by a Megan Walsh RBI-single to shortstop scoring Shimizu lifting USD to 5-2. Kristen Gensler put a fielder's choice into play moving Walsh to second base, however the game ended on a ground out by Dana Prelsnik ending the game.
Jenny Lahitte recorded the loss dropping to 3-5 on the season. She pitched 3.1 innings striking out six Aztecs and walking only one. Cassidy Coleman came in to pitch the remainder of the game recording 2.2 innings striking out three Aztecs.
The Toreros return home on Sunday, April 3 to finish out the crosstown series at 1:00 p.m. at the USD Softball Complex against the Aztecs.
