SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego men's soccer team will play on October 7th at 6:00 pm at the University of Portland in a nationally televised match as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Game of the Week on the Fox Soccer Channel. The matchup will be one of five national broadcasts of WCC soccer this season and the lone men's match.
"We are definitely excited about the opportunity to compete on national television," said head coach Seamus McFadden, who is entering his 33rd year at the helm at USD. "Our matchups with Portland are always competitive and they have such a great atmosphere up there that it's sure to be an outstanding event."
The last two matches the Toreros played against the Pilots resulted in a 1-0 USD loss (10/8/10) and a scoreless tie (11/7/10). The Toreros are 16-14-5 all-time against Portland, who went 9-4-6 (6-3-3 WCC) last season en route to a third-place finish in the conference. USD finished 2010 right behind Portland in fourth place and returns reigning WCC Player of the Year Patrick Wallen, who led the conference in goals (12), points (25), and game-winning goals (5) last season.
The Toreros will open their 2011 season on August 26th with an away game at UC Irvine at 7:00 pm.
