MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swim team wrapped up day two of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships on Thursday at East Los Angeles College. Posting the Toreros' top finish on the day was senior Sarah Geerdes, who clocked a 2:02.41 in the 200 IM that was good for fourth place in the event. She was followed closely behind my Melissa Andruzzi's fifth-place finish at 2:03.37.
The day started off with the 500 free, in which Francesca Finucane earned the top USD place by finishing 10th overall with a time of 4:55.14. Her time marked a new team season best in the 500 free. Taylor Noonan came in 15th in that event with a time of 4:59.73.
Geerdes and Andruzzi then finished back-to-back in the 200 IM. Both swimmers beat the previous season team-best time of 2:05.98 set by Andruzzi. USD got a ninth-place finish from Jacquie Kimmel in the next event, the 50 free. Kimmel narrowly beat her previous best of 23.64 with a time of 23.53 on Thursday evening.
In the final event of the day, USD's A relay (Deckard, Andruzzi, Stone, Finucane) finished ninth in the 400 medley relay by registering a 3:54.07 which was over three second better than the previous team season-best time of 3:57.16 in that event.
Diving action, which was contested at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., consisted of the women's three-meter in which Heather Hippensteel took eighth with an overall score of 210.85.
The Toreros will continue with day three of the championship meet on Friday with prelims in the morning, followed by finals in the evening.
