SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team found the offense hard to come by on day two of the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Saturday at the USD Softball Complex. The Toreros dropped both ends of a double header, losing to Oregon State 7-2 before getting shutout by Boise State 4-0.

USD (1-3) had trouble finding much momentum on offense while struggling at times to get outs on defense-the Toreros committed a total of seven errors in the two contests. Against Oregon State, only three of the Beavers' seven runs were earned.

In the first game, the Beavers (6-3) struck first by plating two runs in the top half of the second. Ally Kutz singled home the first run with a base hit to right field, while Desiree Beltran scored the second run after Torero second baseman Jessica Tieszen had trouble handling a throw from third baseman Chloe Kaneko on a bunt that allowed Beltran to score from third.

However, the Toreros immediately answered in their half of the second when first baseman Kylie Crawford doubled to left field, scoring Lauren Tomey and Tieszen. However, that would wind up being the entirety of USD's offensive output for the game as the Beavers went on to put up runs in the next three innings, capping it off with a three-run seventh that gave Oregon State its eventual 7-2 advantage.

USD starter Cassidy Coleman (0-2) lasted 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, while striking out six and walking six. Oregon State's Paige Hall (2-0) picked up the win in relief with three shutout innings.

In the second half of the double header, the USD offense was shut down by Boise State starter Aubray Zell (4-1), who earned the complete game shutout while allowing only two hits and striking out seven. Left fielder Morgan Kurtz and shortstop Kylie Ordos were the only two Toreros to reach base against the Broncos.

Boise State (6-2) got on the board in the bottom of the second when Devon Bridges hit an RBI double to right center that brought home Allie Crump from second. The Broncos then added three more runs in the fifth inning. Tara Glover tripled to right center, bringing in two runs, and Kellie Caplan knocked in Glover in the ensuing at bat.

Jenny Lahitte (0-1) took the loss for USD after throwing 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with a strike out and three walks.

The Campbell/Cartier Classic concludes on Sunday with three games at the USD Softball Complex. The Toreros are set to play in the final game of the day, a 2:00pm start against UC Davis.
