SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swim team kicked off the 2012 season competing at the USD-SDSU Pentathlon on Friday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. The meet consisted of 11 events total as SDSU won the final tally, 71-22, with the top six swimmers from each team scoring points in each event. Senior Jacquie Kimmel notched a total of five of USD's top finishes on the day.
In the first event of the day, the 100 Freestyle, Kimmel notched USD's top time with a 53.27, which was good for fifth place in the event. Taylor Noonan's 53.63 was the next best USD time as Noonan finished in 11th place.
In the 100 Butterfly, Noonan clocked the Toreros' best time with a 58.92, which put her in seventh place in the event. Kelly Stone wasn't far behind with a 59.19 in ninth place and Keenan Lineback rounded out the top-10 with a time of 59.31.
The 100 Backstroke saw freshman Sarah Reierson finish with the top USD time at 59.78, good for seventh place. She was followed by Kimmel in 14th place with a 1:01.80.
Freshman Sammi Cohn had one of the top finishes of the day for USD with her third place showing in the 100 Breaststroke where she swam a 1:07.15. Melissa Andruzzi finished with a time of 1:09.75, putting in her in eighth place.
In the 100 IM, Kimmel again clocked USD's best time with her 1:01.75, placing her ninth in that event. In 11th place was Stone with a time of 1:02.66 followed by Lineback in 12th place at 1:03.19.
The day wrapped up with some 50-yard sprints sandwiching a 200-yard Freestyle and 200-yard IM. The first 50-yard sprint was the butterfly, where Kimmel finished with the Toreros' best time at 26.70 (fourth place) and Stone swam a 27.01 (fifth place).
Kimmel earned USD's best finish in the 50 Breaststroke as well with a time of 31.88 (third place), while Reierson came in with a time of 33.03 in 11th place.
The 200 Freestyle saw Francesca Finucane post a team-best time of 1:59.60 in that event, which placed her eighth, followed by Andruzzi (2:01.21) and Alexis Lee (2:02.42), who led a string of seven Toreros who finished behind one another.
Lineback posted the best finish for the Toreros overall when she came in first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.51. Noonan (2:12.12) and Cohn (2:15.15) were the other Toreros to finish in the top-5 of that event with third and fourth place finishes, respectively.
In the 50 Backstroke, Reierson came in with the best USD time at 28.98 in sixth place. Kimmel was right behind her in seventh place with a time of 29.02.
The final event of the day was the 50 Freestyle, where Kimmel's 25.33 was USD's top time, good for seventh place. Jackie Taylor (25.46) and Stone (25.62) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth place, respectively.
The Toreros get back in the pool with their annual intrasquad meet on Oct. 4 at 11:30 am the Sports Center Pool before traveling to a dual at USC on Oct. 19.
