Box Score

LINCOLN, Neb. - The ninth-seeded University of San Diego women's volleyball team's historic season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to eighth-seeded University of Nebraska, Friday evening in the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament at the Devaney Center.

With the 20-25, 23-25, 22-25 loss, the Toreros conclude the season with a program-record of 26-4 overall. With the win, Nebraska improves to 26-6 overall and will advance on to the Elite Eight to take on top-seeded Texas at 8 p.m.

Chloe Ferrari paced the USD offense, as she recorded 12 kills on 26 swings, while only committing two attack errors, hitting for a .318 clip. Sandra Lozic was the second Torero in double digit kills with 10, while also recording 10 digs to post a double-double. Jianna Bonomi recorded 22 assists, and had nine digs, while C'era Oliveira recorded a match-high 17 digs.

In the first set, the Huskers raced out to a 9-3 lead, grabbing the early momentum, and forcing the Toreros to use their first timeout. Out of the break, USD could not slow down the Huskers, as they went on a 10-7 run to take a 19-10 lead, forcing USD to burn its final timeout. San Diego then used a 6-3 run late in the frame to pull to within five at 23-18, to force Nebraska into a timeout. The Huskers then held on to claim a 25-20 win in the first set.

In the second set, it was a much more back and forth affair, as USD and Nebraska began to trade point-for-point right from the get-go. Then with the score knotted at 11-all, the Huskers went on a 4-1 run, taking the set to a media timeout. USD continued to stay close with Nebraska, and out of a timeout, back-to-back Torero kills by Lozic pulled San Diego to within two at 23-21, forcing the home team into a timeout. USD then got to within one on a Ferrari kill to force Nebraska into their final timeout. However, USD's very next serve went long, allowing the Huskers to escape with a 25-23 win, to go into the break up two-sets-to-none.

In the third set, much like the second, it was back and forth. Both teams took their turn with the lead, and neither had a lead bigger than one for a majority of the frame. Back-to-back aces then gave Nebraska a 19-17 lead, forcing USD to use its first timeout. Nebraska then managed to hold on and complete the sweep with a 25-22 win.
