RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The USD softball team was back in action on Friday afternoon with a pair of shutouts in the Amy S. Harrison Classic at UC Riverside. The Toreros (5-4) blanked Weber State 2-0 in game one before posting a 5-0 victory over host UC Riverside in game two.

Cassidy Coleman highlighted game one for the Toreros, throwing a gem against Weber State (0-7). Coleman (3-1) went 6.2 innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out a season-high 11. On the offensive side, Lauren Tomey turned in a 3-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI, while Kimberlee Shimizu notched the other Torero RBI and Caitlin Rooney collected two hits of her own.

Dana Prelsnik started off game one with a leadoff triple. She was brought around two batters later when Tomey drove her in with a single up the middle.

USD added their final run in the top of the sixth when Shimizu drew a pinch-hit walk with two outs and the bases loaded that plated Rooney.

Weber State threatened in the bottom of the seventh by loading the bases against USD reliever Mickell Escobar. However, Coleman returned to the circle in relief of Escobar with one out and proceeded to close out the game with back-to-back strikeouts.

In game two the Toreros put up five runs in the first inning and cruised from there. Prelsnik kept up her hot hitting by going 2-for-3 against the Highlanders (2-8) with a run scored. Tomey added another hit to extend her team-best hitting streak to seven games and chipped in with another RBI in game two.

USD quickly scored in the top of the first with a double by Rooney that drove home leadoff hitter Prelsnik. The next hitter, Tomey, picked up another run with a single up the middle. The Toreros chased the Riverside starter after five hitters. USD also took advantage of two UCR errors in the inning to keep the rally alive, one of which led directly to a run.

Charly Swanberg added an RBI groundout in the inning, while Kylie Ordos laid down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Chloe Kaneko to score.

Jenny Lahitte (2-3) earned the win for the Toreros after throwing 6.0 innings of scoreless ball where she scattered five hits, walked one and struck out eight. Grace Hernandez made her USD debut by closing out the game with an inning of work in the seventh, striking out one and allowing one hit.

USD continues play Saturday with a single game against Boise State at 9 am. Live stats for each game are available at the tournament page and on the USD softball schedule page.
