UCR Rallies Past USD and Wins in 10 Innings

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside (12-28) scored nine unanswered runs to overcome an 11-3 deficit Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at the Riverside Sports Complex.

The Toreros (31-22) got on the scoreboard first, as they pushed across one run on two hits in the top of the second inning. Andrew Daniel led of the frame with a single to right centerfield. After Daniel Stole second, Lucas Hagberg hit RBI single to left centerfield to give USD the 1-0 lead.

The Toreros then added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Chris Woolley led off the inning being hit by a pitch. He moved to second o a wild pitch, and Connor Joe then doubled just inside the third base bag, which scored Woolley. Austin Green then doubled to right field, which scored Joe from second to give USD a 3-0 lead.

The Highlanders finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, as they scored one run on three hits. The Riverside run came on a David Andriese RBI single, which scored Devyn Bolasky, who had singled, to move the sore to 3-1.

UCR then took back another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Matthew Ellis RBI sacrifice fly to centerfield, which scored Kevin Davidson, who had doubled, to move the score to 3-2.

The Toreros broke open a close game in the top of the fifth inning, as they scored six runs. Woolley led off the frame getting hit by a pitch. Kris Bryant then launched his 29th home run of the season, a 2-run blast to dead centerfield, 400 feet, for the first two runs. Connor Joe kept things going with a walk and he moved to second on a Dillon Haupt single. Andrew Daniel then drove in Joe with a RBI single and the bases became loaded with a AJ Robinson single through the left side. Lucas Hagberg then hit a 2-run single to right centerfield. Louie Lechich loaded the bases with a walk and Woolley laid down a bunt single to first base, scoring the final run of the inning to give USD a 9-2 lead.

UCR then took back a run in the fifth, but USD answered right back with two runs in the top of the sixth. But that is all USD could manage to score, and the Highlanders mounted a come back scoring three runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and one in each of the eighth, ninth and 10th innings to claim the come from behind win.

Offensively for the Toreros, Hagberg led the way as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Green went 3-for-5 with on RBI.

On the mound, Troy Conyers (1-2) was saddled with the loss, as he allowed one run on two hits on 0.2 innings of work. UCR's Angelo Lingo (1-0) picked up the win as he allowed no runs on one hit in 1.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Wednesday, as they head up to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters in a 6:30 p.m. non-conference game.
