PROVO, Utah - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 13 BYU Friday evening in a West Coast Conference match.
With the 13-25, 15-25, 25-21, 15-25 loss, the Toreros fall to 16-11 overall, move to 9-6 in the WCC, and have now split the season series with BYU, as USD claimed the first meeting in San Diego. With the win, the Cougars improve to 22-4 overall, and move to 13-2 in the WCC.
Canace Finley paced the Torero offense with 16 kills on 32 attempts, while only committing three errors to hit for a .402 clip. Alaysia Brown was the only other Torero in double digit kills with 13, while hitting for a .143 clip. Jianna Bonomi had 25 assists, and Kristen Gengenbacher added inn 17 more to help steer the USD offense to a .084 attack percentage. Merve Tanyel paced the USD defense with a career-high 15 digs.
The Cougars offense was paced by Alexa Gray with 19 kills, while Jennifer Hamsen added in 14 more. As a team, BYU hit for a .306 clip.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they head to the Pacific Northwest and take on the University of Portland in a 7 p.m. match.
