Box Score
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the second consecutive game, the Toreros won walk-off style in the tenth inning. Fueled by another dominant performance from Cassidy Coleman, the Toreros (19-19, 4-3) knocked off LMU (20-20, 1-6) 2-1 in 10 innings. With the bases loaded in the tenth inning, junior third baseman Chloe Kaneko had the game-winning RBI on a bases loaded single through the left side.
The Toreros' offense wasted no time in this one. Dana Prelsnik led off with an infield single and then stole second base. The next batter, Tatum Schultz, lined a single up the middle to bring Prelsnik home and give USD an early 1-0 lead. It would be the last time the Toreros would score until the game-winning RBI in the tenth.
Cassidy Coleman cruised through the first six innings, allowing just one hit while facing the minimum amount of batters to take a 1-0 lead into the final frame. However, the Lions bats heated up in the top of the seventh. Meghan Harman led off the inning with a single to leftfield and was sacrificed to second in the next at-bat. Harman was moved up to third on a single by Sterling Shuster, and then Alex Finie tied the game up with a RBI single through the left side. Another Lions' single loaded the bases, putting the go-ahead run at third base with just one out. Coleman was able to find her groove though and retired the next two batters to get out of the jam and keep the game tied.
Senior shortstop Kylie Ordos led of the tenth with a single and was sacrificed to second by Charly Swanberg. Dana Prelsnik reached on an infield single and then Tatum Schultz was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Kaneko, who hit it hard to the left side to bring home Ordos and clinch the win for the Toreros.
Coleman (10-9) didn't allow another hit after the seventh inning and went the full ten innings for the second consecutive game. She allowed just five hits, with four of them coming in the seventh inning and struck out 11 batters. Coleman is now 4-1 with a 1.20 ERA in WCC play. She has been the starting pitcher in all four of USD's WCC wins.
The Toreros will square off against the Lions again on Saturday in a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Toreros will be honoring their five seniors with a special pregame ceremony beginning at approximately 11:40 a.m.
