LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State University scored six unanswered runs to claim a 6-1 win over the University of San Diego Tuesday evening in the final regular-season game of the year at Blair Field.
With the loss, the Toreros conclude the regular-season at 34-20 overall, and will now wait for this weekend's WCC results to learn if they have earned a birth into the WCC Tournament. With the win, the Dirtbags improve to 27-23 overall.
The Toreros got on the scoreboard first, as they pushed across one run on one hit in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back walks by Austin Bailey and Connor Joe got things started, followed by a Andrew Daniel single to load the bases with no outs. Two batters later, Josh Goossen-Brown reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Bailey to give USD a 1-0 lead.
LBSU then tied the game up with an unearned run in the bottom half of the first inning, and exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second to take complete control of the game. The LBSU runs in the second came on a Colton Vaughn RBI groundout, a Colby Brenner RBI double, a Ino Patron RBI single, passed ball and a Michael Hill RBI ground out to put the game at its final of 6-1.
Offensively for the Toreros, Daniel led the way as he went 2-for-4.
