SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team racked up 17 hits en route to a 14-9 win over Saint Mary's College to complete a sweep over the Gales Sunday afternoon in a West coast Conference game at Fowler Park.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 33-16 overall, move into a three-way tie for second place in the WCC at 15-9, and run their wining streak to six games. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 14-33 overall and 6-15 in the WCC.

After both teams scored two runs in the first inning, the Gaels managed to grab the lead by scoring an unearned run in the top of the second inning. The SMC run came on wild pitch, moving the score to 4-3.

San Diego's bats then exploded with seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to take complete control of things. With one out, Ryan Kirby drew a walk, and he moved to second when Brandon DeFazio reached on a fielding error. Austin Bailey then drew a walk to load the bases, and Connor Joe cleared the bases with a double to right field. Andrew Daniel then singled to left field, scoring Joe for the fourth run of the inning. Back-to-back singles by Louie and Lechich and Jesse Jenner scored Daniel. A Kyle Holder walk again loaded the bases, and back-to-back RBI walks to Kirby and Defazio capped the scoring for the inning, giving USD a 9-3 lead.

The Gaels would take back on run in the fifth, and two runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings, plus one in the ninth, while USD scored four in the sixth and one in the seventh to put the game at its final of 14-9.

Offensively for the Toreros, both Jenner and Lechich led the way going 4-for-6 with one RBI apiece. Andrew Daniel extended his hitting streak to 18 games with his 2-for-5 and three RBI performance.

Josh Goossen-Brown (2-2) picked up the win on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed one run on one hit in 1.2 innings of work. SMC's Anthony Gonsolin (2-4) was saddled with the loss for the Gaels, as he allowed seven runs on six hits in 3.1 innings of work.

San Diego will return to action on Tuesday, as they host UC Irvine in a 6 p.m. non-conference game. This will be the final regular-season game at Fowler Park this season.
