MALIBU, Calif. â€" Junior outside hitter Lisa Kramer recorded a match-high 16 kills to help propel the University of San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Pepperdine University Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference match at the Firestone Fieldhouse.
With the 25-17, 25-20, 27-25 win, the Toreros improve to 16-6 overall, move to 9-1 in the WCC, extend their winning streak to seven, and coupled with a Loyola Marymount win over BYU today, San Diego is now in sole possession of first place in the WCC. With the loss, the Waves fall to 13-10 overall and 4-6 in the WCC.
Kramer recorded her 16 kills on 49 attempts, while just missing a double-double with nine digs. Canace Finley was the only other player in the match in double-digit kills, as she had 11, while also recoding two blocks. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 11 digs, while Hunter Jennings paced the defense with 23 digs, and Ryann Powell recorded 15 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .225 clip and the Waves hit for a .102 clip. Pepperdine out blocked the Toreros 11-8, while USD recorded 55 kills to Waves' 30.
For the Waves, Tara Wylie led the way with eight kills, while hitting for a .261 clip and she recorded six blocks. Becca Strehlow recorded a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs, while Lara Dykstra recorded 11 digs.
San Diego will return to action on Friday, as they head to Provo, Utah to take on No. 13 BYU in a crucial WCC match at 4 p.m.
