PROVO, Utah â€" The 24th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 16 BYU Friday evening in a West Coast Conference match at the Smith Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 16-7 overall, move to 9-2 in the WCC, and saw their seven match winning streak come to an end. With the win, the Cougars improve to 9-3 overall, and move into a tie for first place with USD in the WCC at 9-2 in league matches.
Jayden Kennedy led the Toreros offensively, as she recorded a match-best 12 kills, while also recording three blocks. Lisa Kramer recorded nine kills, and had six digs, while Canace Finley added in eight more kills. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 34 assists, while Hunter Jennings paced the defense with 12 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .061 clip, while BYU hit for a .209 clip. The Cougars recoded 34 kills to USD's 39 kills, and BYU out blocked the Toreros, 18.0-6.0.
For the Cougars, Alexa Gray led the offense with 11 kills, while Camry Godfrey Willardson recoded 24 assists. Ciara Parker paced the Cougar defense with 11 digs, and Whitney Young-Howard recorded a match-best nine blocks.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they return home to host the University of the Pacific in a 7 p.m. WCC match inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
