MORAGA, Calif. â€" Three different Toreros recorded double-digit kills, paced by Lisa Kramer's 17, to help propel the University of San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Saint Mary's College Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference match at McKeon Pavilion.
With the 25-21, 25-15, 19-25, 25-13 win, the Toreros improve to 10-6 overall, move to 4-1 in the WCC, and have won four of their last five matches. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the WCC.
Kramer led all players with her 17 kills, while also registering five digs and one block. Canace Finley had a great match as well, recording 14 kills, and four blocks, three solo, while Jayden Kennedy rounded off the double-digit kill leaders for USD with 12, to go along with four blocks, one solo. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded a double-double with 44 assists, and 16 digs, while Hunter Jennings had 17 digs, and both Ryann Powell and Merve Tanyel added in nine digs a piece.
As a team, USD hit for a .211 clip, while SMC hit for a .116 clip. USD out-blocked the Gaels 10.0-8.0, and USD recorded 58 total kills, while SMC recorded 36.
For the Gaels, Alexis Salmons led the way, as she recorded 10 kills, on 30 swings, while committing one error to hit for a .300 clip. Mary Hernandez recorded 34 assists, and had six digs, while the Gaels defense was paced by Madi Wilkerson, who had 13 digs. Three different SMC players recorded four blocks a piece.
San Diego will return to action on Saturday, as they head over to Stockton to take on the University of the Pacific in a 12 p.m. WCC match.
