SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The 22nd-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team used a balanced offensive and defensive attack to help the Toreros cruise to a 3-0 win over Saint Mary's College in a West Coast Conference match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 18-7 overall, move to 1-2 in the WCC and remain in a two-way tie for first place in the WCC standings. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 6-18 overall and fall to 1-13 in the WCC.
Lisa Kramer paced the USD offense with a team-best 12 kills on 21 swings, while only committing one error to hit for a .524 clip. Canace Finley chipped in with eight kills, while Jayden Kennedy had nine kills. Defensively, Hunter Jennings led the way with 16 digs, and Ryann Powell added inn 12 more digs, and Lauren Schad had a team-best five blocks. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded another double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .359 clip, while the Gaels hit for a dismal .103 clip. The Toreros recorded 45 kills, while SMC only mustered up 29 kills. San Diego out blocked the Gaels 9.0-2.0.
For the Gaels, Lindsey Calvin led the way, as she recorded 14 kills, while hitting for a .385 clip. Mary Hernandez recorded 27 assists, and had eight digs, while the SMC defense was paced by Madi Wilkerson, who had 12 digs.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they head up to Spokane, Wash. to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a 6 p.m. WCC match.
