SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped its third straight game to Morehead State University, 4-2, Saturday evening in a non-conference game at Fowler Park.
The Toreros (0-3) got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning. Bryson Brigman got things started with a single up the middle, and he moved to second on an Austin Bailey groundout to the second baseman. Jerod Smith then singled in Brigman to give USD a 1-0 lead.
USD then doubled its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, as a James Bonds run-scoring double, scored Riley Adams, who had singled, to give USD a 2-0 lead.
Morehead State (3-0) then took back a run in the top of the seventh inning, as a Jimmy Wright run scoring double scored Alex Stephens, who reached on a fielder's choice, to move the score to 2-1.
MSU wasn't done yet, as they rallied to score three runs in the top of the ninth inning to complete the comeback, and win its third straight game over the Toreros.
Jerod Smith led the offense for USD as he went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Anthony McIver (0-1) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed three runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work. MSU's Blake Smith picked up the win for the Eagles, as he allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings of work. Craig Pearcy came on to pick up his second save of the season, as he allowed no runs on no hits in 1.0 innings of work.
USD will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they close out this four-game series with the Eagles at Fowler Park.
