Feb. 20, 2015

Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Dallas Baptist University in the series opener Friday evening in a non-conference game at Fowler Park.

The Patriots (5-0) got on the scoreboard first, as they pushed across two runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. The DBU runs came on Trooper Reynolds run-scoring double, and a Drew Turbin RBI single to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

After DBU tacked on another run in the top of the third inning, USD (1-4) answered back in the bottom of the third inning, scoring one run on two hits. Riley Adams got things started with a walk, and he then stole second. Austin Bailey drove in Adams with an RBI single to right center field, to move the score to 3-1.

San Diego pitchers then put the Dallas Baptist bats at bay, as they retired 16 consecutive batters, until the top of the ninth inning, as Tagg Duce led off the frame with a solo home run to left field, to put the game at its final of 4-1.

Offensively for the Toreros, Bailey led the way, as he went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

David Hill (0-2) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out seven in 5.0 innings of work. DBU's Joseph Shaw (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Patriots, as he allowed one run on three hits in 6.0 innings of work. Brandon Koch picked up his second save of the season, as he allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they resume this three-game series with the Patriots at 2 p.m. inside of Fowler Park.
