WACO, Texas -- Baylor University scored five unanswered runs to rally from behind and defeat the University of San Diego baseball team, 6-3, Sunday morning in a non-conference game at Baylor Ballpark.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 9-8 overall and saw their four-game winning streak to an end. USD also has claimed the championship of the Baylor Challenge. With the win, the Bears improve to 7-8 overall.

The Toreros got on the scoreboard first, as they managed to score two runs in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Alex Gomez reached on a Baylor fielding error to get things started. Jeff Houghtby then hit an RBI triple to right centerfield, scoring Gomez for the first run of the game. Jerod Smith then singled in Houghtby to give USD a 2-0 lead.

Baylor then cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning, as they scored one run on Aaron Dodson RBI single p the middle, which scored Kameron Esthay, who had doubled, to move the score to 2-1.

USD then took that run back in the top of the sixth, but the Bears then scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more run in the bottom of the eighth, to put the game at its final of 6-3.

Offensively for the Toreros, Brhet Bewley led the way, as he went 2-for-4.

Wes Judish (0-1) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed two runs on no hits in 0.1 innings of work. Baylor's Cody Hessemer (1-0) picked up the win for the Bears, as he allowed one run on three hits n 2.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday, as they return to the friendly confines of Fowler Park for a 6 p.m. game against Columbia University.
