RIVERSIDE, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to UC Riverside Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at the Sports Complex.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 20-24 overall, and are riding a season-high five game losing streak. With the win, the Highlanders improve to 18-22 overall, and have swept the season series with USD.
The Toreros got on the scoreboard first, as in the top of the second inning, USD scored one run on two hits. Roman Garcia got thing started with a single. Brhet Bewley then singled, which moved Garcia to third. Daniel Gardner then drove in Garcia with a sacrifice fly to left field, giving USD a 1-0 lead.
The Highlanders then evened up the score in the bottom of the third inning, scoring one run on two hits. The UCR run came on a Michael Farris RBI single, which scored Thomas Walker, who had doubled, to move the sore to 1-1.
After UCR scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, USD would then attempt to put on a ninth inning rally, but fell short, as USD scored one run on one hit. The Torero run came on Troy Conyers RBI groundout, to put the game at its final of 3-2.
Offensively for the Toreros, Bewley led the way, as he went 2-for-3 with a double, and one run scored. Bryson Brigman also had a good day, as he too went 2-for-3.
Wes Judish (0-2) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed two runs on two hits in 2.0 innings of work. UCR's Jerod Morton (1-0) picked up the win for the Highlanders, as he allowed no runs, on no hits, in 2.0 innings of work.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they resume West Coast Conference play at the University of Portland.
