SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision to Loyola Marymount University Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a West Coast Conference series at Fowler Park.
The Toreros (16-14, 4-5 WCC) got on the scoreboard first, as in the bottom of the second inning, they scored three runs on three hits. Riley Adams got things started with a single to left field. The Lions (13-14, 5-4 WCC) then began to chip away at the lead, and would go on to take advantage of several USD miscues and score two runs in the third, one in the fifth and exploded for five runs in the sixth to take a commanding 8-3 lead.
USD would only manage to score one run in each of the eighth and ninth innings to put the game at its final of 8-5.
