STOCKTON, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego baseball team evened up the West Coast Conference series with the University of the Pacific Saturday evening with an 8-2 win at Klein Family Field.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 24-27 overall, and move to 11-12 in the WCC. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 20-27 overall and 11-12 in the WCC.

San Diego wasted no time in scoring, as they managed to push across a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Jeff Houghtby got things started with a single, and he moved to third on a Daniel Gardner double. Two batters later, Riley Adams drove in Houghtby with a RBI sacrifice fly to left field, which also moved Gardner to third. Garner then scored on a balk, to give USD a 2-0 edge.

After USD tacked on one run in the second inning, the Toreros then put the game out of reach in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs on five hits. The USD runs came on a Houghtby RBI single, a Gardner sacrifice fly and Adams RBI single, to give USD a 6-0 lead.

San Diego then went on to score two runs in the fifth, and the Tigers spoiled the shutout by scoring two runs in the seventh to put the game at its final of 8-2.

Offensively for the Toreros, Houghtby led the way, as he went 4-for-5 with three RBI.

Troy Conyers (6-6) picked up the win on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed two runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work. Pacific's Shelby Lackey (1-1) was saddled with the loss, as he allowed five runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m., as they close out this three-game series with the Tigers.
