NEW ORLEANS, Louis. â€" Behind Roman Garcia's two home runs, the Toreros (9-3) knocked off Tulane 5-4 Saturday afternoon to clinch the series. It was Garcia's second game with two home runs this season and the Toreros have now won eight of their past nine games.
Roman Garcia got the Toreros on the board in the top of the second with his first home run of the day, a solo shot to left center.
Garcia hit his second bomb in the fourth inning, this one was a two-run homer that brought home Jay Schuyler, who reached on a double.
Tulane would tie the game in the fifth inning, scoring three runs off Torero starter Chris Murphy. After a leadoff walk, Kody Hoese hit a RBI double down the left field line. Another double, this one from Hunter Williams, scored Hoese. Tulane scored its final run of the inning on a Jarret DeHart RBI single.
The Toreros immediately responded in the next inning to retake the lead. Riley Adams was hit by a pitch then pushed to third after Schuyler hit his second double of the game. Adams would score on a passed ball and Schuyler would score on a Kevin Collard sacrifice fly.
The Torero bullpen, which has been stellar all season, allowed just one run over the final four innings to clinch the series. Sean Barry (2-0) allowed one run in 1.1 innings and collected the win before giving way to Troy Conyers, who came in for the extended 3.1 inning save. Conyers gave up just two hits and struck out five and earned his fifth save of the season. The senior lefty hasn't given up a run in his 14.1 innings pitched this season.
Tulane starter J.P. France (1-2) lasted seven innings, but was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned).
