SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Playing in front of a national television audience, the 17th ranked USD Volleyball (10-3, 3-0) team swept LMU 3-0 Tuesday evening. Jayden Kennedy led the Toreros with 13 kills, helping the Toreros earn their ninth sweep of the season (25-22, 25-22, 25-20).
The Toreros had a hitting percentage of .310 and Kaity Edwards (9), Addie Picha (7), Roxie Wiblin (7) and Lauren Fuller (7) all had seven or more kills. Kristen Gengenbacher had 38 assists and seven digs, while Lizzy Tardieu had a career-high 17 digs.
USD held the Lions to a .208 hitting percentage and had 44 digs to LMU's 37. LMU was led by Megan Rice's 12 kills.
The first set was tightly-contested and featured eight ties. The match was 20-20 at one point, but the Toreros rallied to score five of the last seven points.
The Toreros' had their highest hitting percentage in the second set (.361) and never trailed. In the third set, USD held the Lions to a .083 hitting percentage.
The Toreros have a huge match on Saturday when they host the No. 9 BYU Cougars at noon for "Pack the Pavilion Day."
