Toreros cruise to 3-0 victory against Louisiana

SAN DIEGO – Three San Diego players recorded 10 kills apiece to power the Toreros to a dominating, 3-0, victory against Louisiana on Saturday morning in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

After giving up the first point of the first set, USD (3-5) did not trail the Ragin' Cajuns (7-6) the remainder of the match.

Megan Jacobsen, Lauren Fuller and Addie Picha paced the Toreros offense with double-digit kills. Picha hit .529 on the match, while Jacobsen hit .444 and Fuller hit .364.

Laura Madill set the attack up for success with a team-high 26 assists.

The Toreros played well defensively, registering seven blocks. Kelli Barry led USD with 12 digs, while Wiblin added seven.

USD jumped out to a quick, 10-2, lead in the first set and never looked back. The Toreros led throughout the first and went on a 7-3 run to seal the first set, 25-14.

The Ragin Cajuns seemed to find their footing early in the second set and traded points with USD early. However, the Toreros went on a 7-3 run to create some separation with a 12-8 lead. USD held at least a three-point advantage for the remainder of the set en route to a 25-19 decision.

USD continued its blistering offense in the third and opened on a 13-3 run. Louisiana cut the Toreros lead to, 14-10, but USD responded with a 5-1 rally to go up, 19-11. A 6-2 run, capped by a Picha's 10th kill of the match, secured the 25-17 set win and 3-0 match victory.

The Toreros conclude play in the SDSU/USD Challenge with a 3 p.m. match against Oregon State.
