Fuller Leads Dominating Effort Against Portland

Senior registers match-high 15 kills

SAN DIEGO – Lauren Fuller racked up 15 kills to lead San Diego to a dominating, 3-0, victory against Portland on Thursday night in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
 
Fuller hit .636 on the night and her performance helped the Toreros (6-7, 3-1 WCC) win their third straight WCC match. Fuller came out firing, producing seven kills in the first set. She was two kills shy of her season high of 17, set against No. 12 Baylor on Sept. 1.
 
Megan Jacobsen and Katie Lukes both played well and contributed eight kills and three blocks apiece. Addie Picha was strong throughout the night and picked up steam in the third set with three kills and four blocks to help seal the victory.
 
USD's defense played well and limited Portland (12-3, 0-3 WCC) to a .144 hitting percentage on the night. Payton Douglass paced the Toreros with 14 digs, while Picha finished the night with a team-best six blocks.

After trading points early in the first set, the Toreros went on a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead, 17-11. Fuller delivered her seventh kill of the set to secure the first for the Toreros, 25-19.
 
Portland jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead in the second set but the Toreros regrouped and capitalized on a pair of long streaks to take control of the set. USD went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-9 lead before reeling off another 5-0 run to go up 18-11.
 
Katie Lukes finished off the set with one of her eight kills on the night to give the Toreros their second consecutive set victory by the score of, 25-19.
 
It was all Toreros in the third set. USD took an early 10-4 advantage and never let up, finishing on a 6-0 run to win the third, 25-10, and earn its fourth sweep of the season.
 
USD concludes a stretch of three games in five days when it plays host to Gonzaga on Saturday at noon PT.
