SAN DIEGO – San Diego was dominant in a 3-0 victory over Gonzaga, for its fourth-straight win in WCC play.
The Toreros (7-7, 4-1) used an efficient offense, led by
Megan Jacobsen and
Katie Lukes to sweep the Bulldogs, 25-12, 25-22, 25-11. Gonzaga (4-11, 1-3) could not keep up with the fast-paced attack.
It was all San Diego in the first set, as the Toreros stormed to a 12-0 lead before Gonzaga was able to get on the board.
Anna Newsome's aggressive serving put the Bulldogs out of system and
Katie Lukes collected six kills in the run. The Bulldogs hit just .077 and USD won the set 25-11.
Gonzaga kept things close in the second set, with neither team pulling away by more than three points. The Bulldogs were paced by redshirt senior Kaylie Loewen with four kills. Torero junior
Megan Jacobsen found her rhythm in the middle, recording five kills and hitting .833 in the set. The set ended on a block by
Addie Picha and
Roxie Wiblin to give the Toreros the 2-0 advantage.
The Toreros ran a balanced attack in the third set, with setters
Anna Newsome and
Laura Madill spreading the ball around. USD tallied 16 kills, to the Bulldogs' 7 and hit .387.

Payton Douglass recorded 15 digs in the match and
Lauren Fuller lead the defense at the net with one solo block and four block assists.
San Diego's offense was paced by outside hitter
Katie Lukes and middle blocker
Megan Jacobsen who each recorded 10 kills in the match. Lukes hit .455, while Jacobsen hit .714 to lead the Toreros to their fourth straight win against a WCC opponent.
The Toreros head across town to take on city rival San Diego State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before they face the number one-ranked BYU Cougars at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
