MORAGA, Calif.—San Diego fell to Saint Mary's 20-0 in the opening game of its weekend series on Friday afternoon in Moraga, Calif.

The Gaels (24-16, 9-7 WCC) scored two or more runs in the first five innings, adding five more in the bottom of the eighth. The Toreros (25-18, 9-10 WCC) were held to three hits, with three total base-runners in the contest.

It was a tough day for the Torero pitching staff, which gave up 20 hits and walked 10 batters.
Chris Murphy got the start for the Toreros, pitching 2.0 innings and giving up four runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Five Toreros came out of the bullpen in relief of Murphy, combining to allow 16 hits, with six walks and nine strikeouts.Â

Nicola Mislinski turned in a strong performance, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing one hit and striking out 4-of-9 batters faced.
Jordan Abushahla also turned in a memorable performance coming in from second base in the bottom of the eighth and striking out all three batters faced to end the inning.

SMC did not give up a single walk and struck out seven batters on the night.
Ripken Reyes,
Shane McGuire and
Tora Otsuka recorded the only hits for USD, including a double for Otsuka in the fifth inning.

The Toreros will look to bounce back in game two against the Gaels on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
