Scoring 18 points off of 14 turnovers, San Francisco (14-2, 1-0 WCC) defeated San Diego (7-7, 0-1 WCC) in the conference opener, 88-73. Sophomore guard Bryce Monroe led the Toreros with a season-high 15 points in addition to four assists and three rebounds. Graduate center Terrell Brown-Soares registered his first double-double of the season, ending with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Redshirt senior guard Joey Calcaterra and junior Yavuz Gultekin each added 11 points in the loss.
 
SCOUTING THE WAVES
In its first WCC matchup on Thursday, Pepperdine fell to #4 Gonzaga, 117-83. The Waves are led by junior forward Jan Zidek, who is averaging 12.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Houston Mallette is adding 11.9 points per contest. Freshman guard Mike Mitchell Jr. leads the team and ranks 24th in the NCAA with 77 assists. Pepperdine ranks 32nd in the NCAA in free throw percentage (76.4%).
