MALIBU, CA – Four members of the University of San Diego men's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Regional Championships this weekend, including Iiro Vasa, Sacchitt Sharrma, Oliver Tarvet, Neo Niedner.
 
The duo of Sharrma and Vasa advanced all the way to the semifinals in doubles play, earning three wins.
 
Sharrma and freshman Oliver Tarvet each advanced to the Round of 16 in singles play with two wins each.
 
"After a tough four days of the regional championships, I'm very pleased with our overall level of competitiveness," said assistant coach Alex Funkhouser. "We were fortunate to get a lot more matches under our belt to see where we are against top-tier competition to see where we need to continue to get to. We're extremely fortunate to be in such a strong region for college tennis. It was a great experience for us, especially for our newcomers so that they can continue to learn more about college tennis and what being a Torero is all about. There are still facets that we can continue to improve on with our individual on-court identities, including our physicality and decision making, but those will continue to take shape over time, and we will get where we need to be. I'm extremely excited for where these players are headed as they continue to represent themselves and USD very proudly."
