TULSA, Okla. – The San Diego men's tennis program recently completed a strong weekend at the ITA All-American Championships, led by Iiro Vasa and Oliver Tarvet.
 
"It has been a great experience to be out in Tulsa and compete against the nation's top talents at this year's ITA All-American Championships," said assistant coach Alex Funkhouser. "I could not be more proud of the efforts of Ollie and Iiro and how they continue to represent the Toreros on the national stage. Coming out here and winning seven of 10 total matches in four days speaks volumes of the day-in-and-day-out work that this team puts together. We learned even more about ourselves this week and far more positive takeaways than negative. We're going to use that knowledge and carry the momentum we have built over the past couple of weeks to improve upon certain items that will allow us to jump another level."

The event began with qualifying, as Tarvet continued his red-hot start to the season by breezing through three matches in straight sets. Tarvet unseated two higher-ranked players in No. 94 Taha Baadi (Kentucky) and No. 51 Isaac Becroft (Oklahoma State) and earned his way into the main draw for the first time.
 
In the main draw, Tarvet earned another straight set win over Tulsa's Victor Tosetto, while Vasa earned a ranked win, before the duo ultimately fell in the round of 32. In the fall campaign, Tarvet is now 7-1 in singles, with his only loss to No. 18 Pedro Rodenas (Duke).
 
In doubles, the duo nearly earned their way into the main draw through qualifying, winning their first two matches, before falling in the final match of qualifying.
 
San Diego is back home for more fall tennis next week, hosting the San Diego Veterans Classic from Oct. 13-15 at the Hogan Tennis Center.
