CHULA VISTA, CA — San Diego women's rowing are gearing up for the WIRA Championships this weekend after winning several times last weekend in Chula Vista the UCSD Invitational while competing against Sacramento State, Santa Clara, and UC San Diego.

"Last weekend offered us three opportunities for some tight, competitive racing," head coach Dave Cormier said after the event. "We were able to test out different lineups and race plans in a competitive environment and are entering into this weekend's racing with a bit more insight."

The Toreros 1V8+ and 2V8+ highlighted the early stages of last Saturday, setting forth fast finishes with times of 6:37.06 and 6:49.60 respectively. Both boats won their races, beating out Sac State and Saint Mary's. The 1V4+ and 2V4+ rounded out the morning session with a second-place finish by the 1V4+ with a time of 7:51.71 and a first-place finish by the 2V4+ with a time of 7:50.69. 

San Diego continued its success on Saturday evening, sweeping all three races against LMU and Saint Mary's after first-place finishes from the 1V8+ (6:40.09), the 2V8+, (6:58.45),  the 1V4+ (8:11.14), 2V4+ A (8:02.69) and 2V4+ B (8:05.86). On Sunday, the day was highlighted by wins against UC San Diego and Saint Mary's in the 1V4+ (7:55.2) and against UC San Diego in the 2V4+ A (7:57.0).

The Toreros are back in action tomorrow Saturday, April 27th when they will begin competition in the WIRA Championships. The race schedule and lineups for this weekend can be found below:
