Women's Rowing Finishes Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's rowing finished up their final day of the San Diego Crew Classic this past Sunday. The Toreros raced a first, second, and open varsity eight, as well as a varsity four this year. 

The first varsity eight competed in the Jessop Whittier Cup, a highly competitive race featuring some of the top rowing programs in the nation including Texas, Berkeley, Notre Dame and Washington. They ended up posting a time of 6:56.202, coming in 6th place and showing that they can compete against the other big schools.

The second varsity eight raced in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy posting a time of 7:25.201, the open eight were in the Carley Copley Cup with a time 7:42.927, and the varsity four competed in the Karen Plumleigh Courtney Cup finishing with a time of 8:37.250. "This weekend was a great opportunity for our program to line up against some of the fastest teams in the country." said head coach Dave Cormier.  "The Varsity 8+ did a great job proving that they deserve to be in the Jessop Whittier, and we're looking forward to returning to that event and improving next year. Special thanks to all the family, friends, and alumni who came out to support us this weekend. The energy on show was electric!"


The Toreros now turn their attention to their next competition, the UCSD Invitational, which takes place on Saturday April 20th and Sunday April 21st at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista.
