SANTA CLARITA, CALIF. — The University of San Diego women's cross country team stood out, placing second overall, beaten only by a tiebreaker, while the men finished ninth at The Master's Invitational at Central Park in Santa Clarita, Calif..

The USD women collected 78 points, equal with WCC foes LMU who only edged the Toreros on a tiebreaker despite San Diego having all scorers in the top 25. Freshman
Clare Boneau led the way for the team in the 6K race, with a time of 22:32.8 in 10th place. The youth continued taking over as freshmen
Sydney Tackett and
Brooklyn Hom were right behind, finishing 11th and 13th place respectively. Experience rounded up the caboose as junior
Camryn Kozak and senior
Nathalie Green completed the scoring contingent.
On the men's side, the Toreros claimed a ninth place finish overall out of 20 teams in the 8K race with 311 points. Graduate student
Jake Coleman led the way for the men's team again, finishing 11th overall with a time of 25:18:1, with sophomore
Michael Ivory second on the team racing with a time of 26:30. Freshman
Maxwell Gibbons and juniors
Jack DeVries and
Anthony Lenzini rounded out the scoring.
Up next for the Toreros, both the men's and women's teams will head to the Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kent. in two weeks' time for a power-five race on Saturday, Oct.4.
