Toreros Earn Split in Double Dual Meet With Vanderbilt and SDSU

USD bested the Commodores and battled tough against their crosstown rival

SAN DIEGO — Back in action for the first time in 2026, the San Diego swimming and diving team earned a split during Saturday's double dual meet as they bested Vanderbilt by a 165-128 final score before falling just short against San Diego State by a 153-132 margin on Friday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex.

USD received great contributions up-and-down the roster against the Aztecs and Commodores as they earned first place finishes in five different events as the rain stayed away after a rainy week in Southern California.

Continuing her strong individual season, Sydney Wilson earned a first place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:33.02. Ava Delaney turned in a time of 57.08 racing in the 100 butterfly as she finished in first place to help the Toreros earn key points in a close meet.

On the diving side, Morgan Divita led the way in the three meter dive with a combined score of 232.50, and the Toreros' newest student-athlete Brooke Blaylock put together the meet's best score in the one meter dive at 228.53 as she transferred into San Diego's program ahead of the new year.

Rounding out a strong overall meet for USD, the Toreros' 200 freestyle relay squad of Alison Diehl, Haley Borja, Ava Delaney and Analeis Vos led the way with a time of 1:38.93 during Friday's meet.

"It was a great start for our team and it was our first meet in about a month," USD head swimming and diving coach Mike Keeler said. "Looking at the results it was a total team effort against the Commodores, and I'd love to highlight Ava Delaney, Penelope Leonard, Analeis Vos, Sydney Wilson, Alison Diehl, Haley Borja, Elise Sullivan, Brooke Blaylock and Morgan Divita for their first place performances against Vanderbilt. It was a great win for us against Vanderbilt and as our program we are now 2-0 against the SEC as we also defeated Vanderbilt back in 2015."
