Sherburne Sets USD Single-Season Assist Record

University of San Diego sophomore setter Lindsey Sherburne handed out 45 assists during Saturday's three-game loss to Pepperdine, setting a new San Diego single-season school record with 1,494 thus far in 2003. Sherburne surpassed USD great Katie Lindquist who had held the record with 1,471 in 1997. The 4th-ranked Waves of Pepperdine defeated host San Diego by individual game scores of (30-20, 31-29, 30-24).

The Waves received a match-best 20 kills from All-West Coast Conference attacker Katie Wilkins to improve to 24-2 and finish the season unbeaten in league play at 14-0. San Diego lost for the sixth consecutive time, closing out the regular season 17-12 and 6-8 in the WCC.

San Diego had three players reach double figures in kills, with freshman Emily Haas and Ryan Maspero combining to put down 23. Junior Devon Forster totaled 12 kills on a night San Diego celebrated the careers of senior's Brynne Young, Bridget Merritt and Lisa Gordon.
