FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The University of San Diego women's swimming team traveled to Washington for the AT&T Short Course National Championship and competed well. The team of seven girls who qualified traveled to the event which hosted over 200 athletes.
San Diego had five top-25 finishes at the meet which included three Relay events. Senior Sarah Gleason lead the team with solid finishes in three of her four events. Gleason finished in 22nd place in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:58.97 in front of her hometown crowd which traveled the short distance from Bainbridge, Washington. Gleason had a solid showing in the 500 freestyle with a 5:03.26 and then helped her team in two relays.
The Toreros took 21st place in the 200 free relay as Sarah Geerdes, Kristen Yoon, Jacquie Kimmel, and Tina Levesque finished in 1:36.70. The 400 medley relay team of Yoon, Melissa, Andruzzi, Geerdes, and Kimmel finished in 22nd place with a time of 3:52.25 while the 200 medley relay team of Yoon, Andruzzi, Geeres and Kimmel again placed 22nd with a time of 1:48.14. The team of seven battled and got one more top-25 finish in the 800 freestyle relay as the squad of Andruzzi, Yoon, Geerdes, and Gleason took 23rd in a time of 7:36.02.
Kristyn Deckard recorded a 65th place finish in the 400 individual medley with a 4:47.54 time while teammate Melissa Andruzzi finished in 38th place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.55.
The Toreros return to the water after the new year for a three-way relay meet against Tulane and San Jose State set for January 3rd at 12:00 p.m.
