San Diego, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team completed their final meet at home on Saturday afternoon as they competed against conference-foe Boise State. The Toreros surrendered defeat to the visiting Broncos in the final team results, 235.5-134.5.
The 17-event meet featured two rounds of diving competition in which USD fared well. Amy Bogart captured first-place in the first round with a final score of 221.25 over her six dives while Monica Oddo picked up the fourth spot with a total score of 212.48. Oddo parlayed her first round into a first-place finish in the second round, scoring a 228.83. Bogart bested her first round score for a second-place finish with 226.28 points.
After placing third in the 100-yard Backstoke, Kristyn Deckard displayed her endurance in the 200-yard back by finishing in first-place with a time of 2:06.26, edging second-place finisher Denise Green's time of 2:06.56. Deckard trailed Green after the first 100 yards by 39-hundredths of a second, but by passing Green over the next 50 yards, Deckard was able to complete the victory down the final stretch.
Melissa Andruzzi finished in the top-three in all four of her events, placing second in the 200-yard Breaststroke, tied for second in the 100-yard Breaststroke, and third in the endurance-testing 1,000-yard Freestyle. She also swam the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay, helping the team finish second.
Jacquilyn Kimmel finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.63 over the rapid sprint, behind Stephanie North's first-place time of 24.57.
Saturday was also Senior Day as nine seniors, Michon Affinito, Addy Bednarski, Aileen Fedrick, Sarah Gleason, Kristina Levesque, Alyssa Martinez, Rachael McKay, Laura Pope, and Kristen Yoon, competed for the final time at home in their USD careers.
The Toreros will return to the pool on Saturday, January 16th, when they will take on the Tritons of UC San Diego.
