SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team battled to a 149-149 tie against UC San Diego on Saturday from the USD pool. Overall, the Toreros won a total of nine of the meet's 16 events, including both relays and both diving events. Freshman
Taylor Noonan led the way with a pair of individual wins in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.62) and 500 yard freestyle (5:00.40).
USD kicked off the day with a win in the 200 yard medley relay as Kristyn Deckard, Sarah Geerdes, Kelly Stone and Jacquie Kimmel teamed to post a time of 1:47.84. Freshman Keenan Lineback then went on to win the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.40, which was followed up by the first of Noonan's two wins, the 200 yard freestyle.
Kimmel and Melissa Andruzzi kept the Toreros in the mix with back-to-back second-place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.23) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.39), respectively. Sophomore Eleanor Phillips posted another second-place showing for USD in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.73.
Stone and Kimmel tallied another win for USD when they tied for first in the 50 yard freestyle, both coming in at 25.00.
Geerdes kept the winning momentum in USD's favor when she took first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.80, that was followed two events later by Noonan's second victory of the day, the 500 yard freestyle.
Rounding out the day's swimming was the 400 yard freestyle relay, which the Toreros captured with a time of 3:31.74. Noonan, Stone, Andruzzi and Francesca Finucane made up the winning relay for USD.
The diving action took place on Friday at UCSD with the Toreros' Heather Hippensteel, the lone USD diving participant, winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter events with scores of 231.08 and 224.93, respectively.
The Toreros return to action on Nov. 17th-19th at the Arena Cup in Long Beach, Calif. and the Redlands Diving Invitational on Nov. 19th in Redlands, Calif.
