SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros dropped two games Saturday afternoon at the San Diego Classic II falling to Harvard 1-0 and Wisconsin 7-1. The Toreros drop to 8-11 overall on the season and 1-5 at home this season.
The Toreros fell in game one 1-0 to the Harvard Crimson. The Crimson put up five hits to USD's one hit in the game. Harvard's one run came in second inning when they doubled with a runner in scoring position. Cassidy Coleman pitched a complete game from the circle striking out seven batters in six innings of work against the Crimson.
In game two the Toreros took an early lead over the Badgers 1-0 in the first inning when with one out, Dana Prelsnik singled to third base beating the throw and then advanced to second base on a Taylor Hensley single to shortstop. Jessica Tieszen popped out to second base as both base-runners held. Celeste Soto hit a key RBI-single up the middle moving Hensley to second base and scoring Prelsnik. Kimberlee Shimizu popped out to end the inning with the Toreros 1-0. Wisconsin scored seven unanswered runs on nine hits as the Toreros fell 7-1. The Torero pitching staff had five strikeouts on the day against the badgers.
San Diego returns for the final day of the San Diego Classic II on Sunday wrapping up their doubleheader starting with an 11:30 a.m. game against Cal State Northridge followed by game two against Ohio University.
