LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swim and dive team put in a strong showing at USC on Friday afternoon but lost the dual meet by a final score of 157.5-125.5. Keenan Lineback and Jacquie Kimmel highlighted the day for the Toreros as Lineback won the 200 yard butterfly and 400 yard IM, while Kimmel captured the top spot in the 50 yard freestyle.
The swimming events started with the 200 yard medley relay in which USD's B relay finished in third place with a time of 1:48.18 and the A relay came in at 1:52.51, which was good for fifth, followed by the C relay at 1:57.43.
The first individual event, the 1,000 yard freestyle, saw Anya Littfield post a fourth place finish with a swim of 10:38.08. Morgan Scarth (10:56.03) and Katie Olsen (11:00.10) followed in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Francesca Finucane claimed USD's top time in the 200 yard freestyle with her swim of 1:53.29. Taylor Noonan came in right behind Finucane at 1:53.48 and was followed by Alexis Lee (1:56.98) and Haley Cahill (1:59.04).
In the 100 yard backstroke, Sarah Reierson put together a strong swim en route to a third place finish and a time of 59.79. Kristyn Deckard followed in fifth place with a time of 1:03.66.
Sammi Cohn clocked a strong 1:06.54 in the 100 yard breaststroke, which netted her third place. Melissa Andruzzi (1:08.18) followed in fifth and Paige Sellers (1:09.60) in sixth.
Lineback notched her first win of the day in the 200 fly with her time of 2:05.54. Eleanor Phillips came in third with her swim of 2:09.20, followed by Kelly Stone in fourth at 2:12.99.
Kimmel made it two USD victories in a row when she followed with a winning swim of 24.25 in the 50 free. Finucane came in tied for second with a time of 24.66. Kimmel then notched back-to-back top Torero finishes when she put together a 52.68 in the 100 yard freestyle that was good for third place in the event. Lee (53.57) and Finucane (53.57) matched each other to tie for fourth place behind Kimmel.
Reierson posted her second third place finish, this time in the 200 yard backstroke, when she finished in 2:06.15. Noonan came in two spots behind her in fifth place with a time of 2:09.15, followed by Deckard at 2:16.88.
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Cohn again finished with USD's best time as she came in fourth at 2:23.87. Andruzzi came in fifth at 2:26.06 and Sellers not far behind at 2:26.96.
The 500 yard freestyle saw Lineback earn a fifth place finish with her time of 5:05.93. Littlefield (5:19.15) and Olivia Campbell (5:23.49) rounded out the event in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Noonan captured second place in the 100 yard butterfly with her swim of 57.91 and was followed closely behind by Stone (58.33) and Reierson (59.06).
The final individual event of the day, the 400 IM, had Lineback winning her second event of the afternoon with her time of 4:27.85. Phillips trailed in second with a time of 4:39.19, followed by Cohn (4:40.85) and Scarth (4:52.06).
Wrapping up the day on a positive note was USD's B relay with a first place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.26. The A and C relays followed in second and third with times of 3:40.17 and 3:49.16, respectively.
USD's divers, Mathilda Danckler and Molly Robson, swept both diving events. In the 1M diving, Danckler posted the top score with a 254.10, while Robson came in second with a 149.80. Those results mirrored the 3M event, where Danckler tallied a 251.80 and Robson a 114.50.
The Toreros return to action on Nov. 3 when they compete in a three team dual with Loyola Marymount and UC Davis at LMU.
