Beach Cup Day One Results
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -The University of San Diego swim and dive team had an impressive opening day at the Beach Cup, winning two of the five events to put them in second place with 188 points. LMU holds a slim lead with 194 points. Fresno State is third with 154 points and Pepperdine has 78 points.
The Toreros made a splash in the second event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle, placing three swimmers in the top five. Keenan Lineback (5:00.19) and Taylor Noonan (5:01.47) posted season-bests to take home first and second. Gwen Walter finished in fifth to earn ten points with a time of 5:09.15.
The Toreros kicked off the day with a third and sixth place finish in the 200-yard medley. The A team (Franz, Reierson, Beal, and Jones) posted a 1:49.78 and the B squad (Tolan, Cohn, Noonan, and Taylor) finished in 1:53.10.
After a strong showing in the 500-yard freestyle, Sarah Reierson posted a season-best finish (2:08.59) in the 200-yard IM to earn second place. Danielle Deiparine (6th; 2:11.19) and Sammi Cohn(11th; 2:12.71) also earned points for the Toreros.
In the fourth event, the 50-yard freestyle, Jackie Taylor and Lexie Franz posted season-best times of 24.73 and 24.84 to take home fourth and fifth. Stephanie Jones (10th; 25.54) and Haley Cahill (11th, 25.55) also had strong showing to earn points for USD.
The Toreros finished the day on a good note, by finishing first and fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The A team of Taylor Noonan, Gwen Walter, Keenan Lineback, and Jackie Taylor finished a full 6.5 seconds ahead of the second place squad to earn the Toreros 30 points. The B squad (Cahill, Sloan, Tolan, and Reierson) earned a fourth place finish with a time of 7:58.06.
The first diving competition will begin Friday evening at El Camino College with the rest of the Beach Cup wrapping up Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Burns Aquatic Center.
