SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Torero swim and dive team was edged by UCSD 189.5-108.5 in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the USD Sports Center Pool. Keenan Lineback (1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly), Jackie Taylor (100-yard freestyle), and diver Morgan White (three-meter) earned first place finishes, while numerous other Toreros registered top-three finishes.
Sammi Cohn had a strong day against the Tritons earning second in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:07.38 and 2:34.36.
Taylor Noonan finished in the top-three in three events. She finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best finish of 58.63. She also finished third in the 100 (53.39) and 200-yard freestyle (1:54.39).
Gwen Walter finished behind Lineback in the 1000-yard freestyle to earn second with a time of 10:35.23. She also earned third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.91).
Christina Jonsson earned a couple of third place finishes. She swam a 2:24.63 in the 200-yard breaststroke and a 2:14.63 in the 200-yard IM.
Other Toreros to finish in the top-three were Lexie Franz (2nd; 100-yard backstroke, 58.89), Morgan Scarth (2nd; 200-yard backstroke, 2:12.39), and Eleanor Phillips (3rd; 200-yard butterfly, 2:10.50).
In addition to finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly, Lineback finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.81). Taylor finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.54) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.64).
The Toreros A Relay earned third in both relay events. Franz, Reierson, Beall, and Jones finished the 200-yard medley in 1:49.89, and Noonan, Taylor, Walter, and Jones finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.52.
The Toreros will return to action February 19 in Los Angeles, Calif. for the MPSF Championships.
