Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Jesse Jenner's walk-off RBI single lifted the University of San Diego baseball team to a thrilling 9-8 come-from-behind win over No. 24 Nevada Monday evening in a non-conference game at Fowler Park.

After USD had rallied to score six runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull even with the Wolfpack, San Diego then continued the rally in the ninth scoring one last run. Kyle Holder led off the inning with a bunt single. Colton Waltner then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Holder to second. Jenner then stepped to the plate, and hit a single through the right side, which scored Holder, to lift USD to the victory.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 23-16 overall, and snapped a three-game losing streak. With the loss, the Wolfpack dropped to 31-10 overall and saw their four-game winning streak some to an end.

Nevada struck first, as they pushed across two runs on one hit in the top of the second inning. The Nevada runs came on a USD fielding error, and a Jordan Devencenzi sacrifice bunt to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

San Diego then responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning on two hits. Austin Bailey led off the frame being hit by a pitch. Bailey then moved to second on a wild pitch, and he moved to third on a Riley Adams infield single. Aidan Stinnett then singled in Bailey for the first run, while moving Adams to second, and Adams then moved to third on an error by the Nevada second baseman. Andrew Solomon then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which scored Adams for the second run of the frame, tying the game up at 2-2.

Nevada then went on to score three runs in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take what appeared to be a commanding 8-2 lead.

USD then got hot in the bottom of the eighth inning, as they scored six runs on seven hits. The USD runs came on a Holder 2-run homer, a Jenner solo home run, and a Ben Wylly three-run double to even the score, and set the stage for the thrilling ninth inning.

Offensively for the Toreros, Holder led the way, as he went 3-for-5 wth a home run and two RBI. Adams also had a great day, as he went 2-for-4 with two runs score, while Jenner went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

Daniel Reitzler (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, as he allowed no runs on no hits in 3.0 innings of work. Trenton Brooks (2-1) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Wolfpack, as he allowed one run on one hit in 0.0 innings of work.

San Diego will return to action on Friday, as they resume West Coast Conference play with a road game at Saint Mary's College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
