SANTA BARBARA, Calif. â€" Both Lisa Kramer and Jayden Kennedy were in double-digit kills, but it wasn't enough, as the 18th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 17 UCLA in the first match of the UCSB Tournament Friday afternoon in the Thunderdome.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 5-2 overall, and saw its three-match winning streak come to an end. With the win, the Bruins improve to 5-1 overall and run their winning streak to four.
Kramer led the Torero offense with 13 kills on 25 attempts, while only committing three errors to hit for a .400 clip. Kennedy recorded 11 kills, while Canace Finley had eight kills and added in three blocks. Hunter Jennings had 13 digs, while Lauren Fuller added in 12 digs and Merve Tanyel had 11 digs. Caila Stapleton recorded 22 assists, while Kristen Gengenbacher added in 19 more assists.
As a team, USD hit for a .129 clip, while the Bruins hit for a .289 clip. UCLA out blocked the Toreros 9.0-7.0.
For UCLA, Jordan Anderson led the way, as she recorded a match-best 20 kills, while Reily Buechler added in 13 kills, Haley Lawless had 12 kills and Claire Felix had 10 kills. Zana Muno recorded 47 assists, while both Rachel Inouye and Buechler had 13 digs a piece.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they take on Southern Methodist University in an 11 a.m. match at the UCSB Tournament.
