SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€"The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to cross-town rival San Diego State University Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at Fowler Park.

SDSU (10-20) got on the scoreboard first, as they managed to score a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The Aztec runs came on David Hensley solo home run, and an error on the Torero defense, to move the score 2-0.

After the Aztecs scored another run in the top of the fourth, USD (18-18) responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one run on one hit. Jay Schuyler led off the frame with a triple to right field. Troy Conyers then came in to pinch hit, and he grounded out to the first baseman, which scored Schuyler, to move the score to 3-1.

Both teams then traded runs in the seventh, and SDSU's Jordan Verdon blasted a 3-run homer to right field in the top of the eighth, while USD scored one in the ninth on a Kevin Collard solo home run to put the game at its final of 7-3.

Offensively for the Toreros, Collard led the way, as he went 2-for-2 with a double, one home run and one RBI. Roman Garcia also had a good day, as he went 2-for-4.

Jonathan Teaney (1-1) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit in 0.1 innings of work. Dalton Douty (1-0) picked up the win for the Aztecs, as he allowed one run on one hit in 2.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they resume West Coast Conference play when Santa Clara University comes to town for a 6 p.m. game.
