Zags Shutout Toreros, Take Series

SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision to league-leading Gonzaga University Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference game at Fowler Park.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 26-29 overall, move to 12-14 in the WCC, and have dropped the series to the Bulldogs. With the win, the Zags improve to 33-17 overall and 18-8 in the WCC.

The Zags wasted no time in scoring, as they managed to score a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The GU runs came on Justin Jacobs RBI double, and a Joey Harris RBI single, to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

GU then went on to score three runs in the third, and three in the sixth inning to put the game at its final of 8-0.

Offensively for the Toreros, both Riley Adams and Brhet Bewley led the way, as they each went 2-for-4.

Troy Conyers (6-7) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work. Eli Morgan (10-1) picked up the win for the Zags, as he allowed no runs on eight hits in 9.0 innings of work.

San Diego will return to action on Saturday, as they resume this West Coast Conference series against Gonzaga University. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
