SAN DIEGO - The West Coast Conference released its All-WCC Awards today and the Torero baseball program received great news with the announcement that junior catcher Riley Adams (Encinitas, Calif.) was named the 2017 WCC Player of the Year. Adams becomes the fourth Torero in the past five seasons to earn this award, and the 10^th honoree in program history. The Toreros finished the regular-season with a 35-18-1 record and 18-9 WCC mark and are hoping for an at-large bid into the NCAA Postseason.

On the year Riley batted .312 with 12 doubles, 13 homers, 47 RBIs and 45 runs scored. His numbers in WCC play were just as impressive as he batted a team-best .380 with 9 doubles, 8 homers, 25 RBIs, 21 runs scored, and a .710 slugging percentage. Additionally, he did an outstanding job behind the plate handling Torero pitchers and being a team leader.

"What a great accomplishment for Riley Adams," said head coach Rich Hill. "Above and beyond the great numbers, which are pretty staggering when you consider his on-base percentage, slugging percentage and batting average, is his character, his humbleness and his work ethic. He has a great future and Torero Nation couldn't be more proud. He has garnered his place among them on the Mt. Rushmore of Torero greats."

Riley joins former Toreros Kyle Holder (2015), Connor Joe (2014) and Kris Bryant (2013) with this prestigious honor in the past five seasons. Joining Adams on the All-WCC First Team was sophomore LHP Nick Sprengel who finished the year with a 9-1 record and 3.29 ERA.

Senior Hunter Mercado-Hood and sophomore Jay Schuyler were named All-WCC Second Team. Mercado-Hood batted .314 on the year and finished with 47 runs, 18 doubles, 9 homers, 38 RBIs and 118 total bases. Schuyler batted a team-best .352 and ends the regular-season riding a 39-game on-base streak. Freshman LHP Chris Murphy was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team after going 3-3 in WCC play with 60 strikeouts.

Murphy was joined on the All-WCC Honorable Mention list by senior closer Troy Conyers (13 saves, 2.70 ERA, 65 strikeouts), senior first baseman Roman Garcia (.292 B.A., 22 doubles, 14 homers, 125 total bases) and sophomore RHP Paul Richan (5-2 record, 3.05 ERA, 73 strikeouts).
