San Diego will host Cal State Fullerton and San Francisco this week

 SAN DIEGO—San Diego will play host to Cal State Fullerton and San Francisco this week in the second half of its eight game homestand.
 
The Toreros (14-6, 1-2 WCC) will face the Titans (8-9) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a nonconference matchup before taking on San Francisco for a three-game weekend series. USD will host USF Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
The games will be streamed via theW.tv and live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
• The Toreros are currently ranked 27th in Collegiate Baseball's Top 30 rankings. It is the Toreros' 14th-straight season with a national ranking. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego went 2-2 last week after a 9-6 victory over No. 21 TCU on Tuesday. The Toreros dropped their WCC opening series to Pepperdine 1-2. USD secured the opening victory on Friday, 5-1 before falling 7-8 on Saturday and 5-10 on Sunday. 
 
• The Toreros hit .321 (45-for-140) with seven doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs. USD posted a .436 slugging percentage and .386 on-base percentage in four games.
 
• Three Toreros hit their first home run of the season against Pepperdine. Cody Jefferis got things started, hitting a solo shot to right field in the seventh inning of Friday's 5-1 victory. Adam Kerner followed that up with a 2-run homer to left field in the fifth inning of Saturday's 8-7 loss. Shane McGuire got things going early on Sunday with a 3-run bomb in the bottom of the first inning in a 10-5 loss.
 
USD vs TCU
• The Toreros trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth before USD broke through to score six runs and take the lead against the Horned Frogs. San Diego added runs in the seventh and eighth innings to ensure the victory. 
 
• San Diego collected 13 hits in the contest and had five Toreros with multi-hit games. Adam Kerner finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs while Connor Doyle went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Jeff Houghtby hit his third double of the season, adding a run and finishing 2-for-5.
 
• TCU scored two runs in the first and second innings and added one run in the third and sixth. USD capitalized on four Horned Frog errors, including one in the pivotal sixth inning to score two runs and tie the game, 6-6.
 
• Shane McGuire singled to center field with one out to score the go-ahead run and the Toreros never looked back, defeating their second ranked opponent of the season.
 
USD vs Pepperdine
Game 1
• The Toreros took game one of the weekend series, 5-1,scoring two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and added one in the seventh to take down last year's WCC Champion Waves in their first conference game of the season.
 
• Cody Jefferis paced the Toreros offensively, going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jefferis hit his first career home run, crushing a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall in the seventh inning to cement the victory for USD. 
 
• Chris Murphy got the start for San Diego on the mound. After giving up the only Pepperdine run in the first inning, Murphy pitched six solid innings, giving up three hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
 
• Jake Miller came on in the seventh in relief of Murphy, pitching three shutout innings for USD. Miller gave up just three hits with one walk and one strikeout for his second save of the season.
 
Game 2
• San Diego rallied in the ninth inning but came up just short in an 8-7 loss to Pepperdine on Saturday evening at Fowler Park.
 
• The Toreros matched the Waves run for run before Pepperdine broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth inning, stretching its lead by two. The Waves added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to lead 8-5.
 
• With one out, Ripken Reyes and Shane McGuire hit back-to-back singles and with two outs, Caleb Ricketts hit an RBI single to center field to score Reyes from second. 
 
• The runners both advanced on a wild pitch and Adam Kerner reach on a fielding error by the third baseman to score McGuire and pull the Toreros within one. However, a popup to second base ended the rally and moved the Toreros to 1-1 in the series.
 
Game 3
• San Diego could not overcome an early onslaught from Pepperdine and dropped the series finale, 10-5.
 
• The Toreros jumped out to an early lead after Shane McGuire hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Waves quickly answered, scoring in each of the next four innings, including five runs in the third and three in the fourth to take a 10-3 lead.
 
• USD gained momentum in the bottom of the fifth after Paul Kunst singled and Cody Jefferis doubled to move both runners into scoring position. Ripken Reyes singled down the first base line to score Kunst and McGuire hit a sacrifice fly to right field bringing in Jefferis to make it 10-5 Pepperdine.
 
• However, USD's offense stalled down the stretch, stranding a base runner in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings. The Toreros finished the day with nine hits and five men left on base.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST CAL STATE FULLERTON
•  The Titans lead the all-time series with the Toreros 66-14-3. The teams split their two-game series last season with Fullerton winning the first matchup 9-3 and USD winning the second, 10-4.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SAN FRANCISCO
•  The Toreros lead the all-time series 84-58 over the Dons. USF took the series last season 2-1, winning 8-4 and 4-2. USD took the final game of the series 5-0.

FRESH FACES
• Eleven newcomers (7 position players, 4 pitchers) have made starts for the Toreros in the early part of the season. Collectively USD's freshmen are hitting .281 with a .385 on-base percentage and have combined for 41 RBIs.
 
• Freshman Cody Jefferis has started all 20 games for San Diego, leading the team in hits (27), doubles (7) and RBIs (18) and is second in runs (18). Jefferis is hitting .346 with a .474 slugging percentage and .442 on-base percentage.
 
• Cal graduate transfer Ripken Reyes has also started all 20 games for USD, hitting .364 including three doubles and two triples for the Toreros. Reyes has a slugging percentage of .470 and an on-base percentage of .482. 
 
• Freshman Jake Miller (2-0, 0.00 ERA) pitched a gem in his first career start for the Toreros. The righthander went 7.0 shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks, with four strikeouts in a 4-0 win against Long Beach State (Feb. 19). He's made two starts and seven appearances for USD, pitching 21.2 shutout innings, holding opponents to seven hits and collecting 20 strikeouts.
