Sailor Hawes Named Women’s Rowing Assistant Coach

SAN DIEGO, CA — Head coach Dave Cormier and the San Diego women's rowing program have announced the hiring of Sailor Hawes, as the program's newest assistant coach.

"We're really excited to have Sailor on staff," said Cormier. "Her experience as a coxswain and WCC Champion is a fantastic addition to our staff. Her work ethic came through on the very first phone call and our scholar athletes are going to love working with her."

Hawes joins USD from Lake Casitas Rowing Association, where she coached their masters team.

As a student athlete at Gonzaga University, Hawes coxed the 1V8+ to back-to-back WCC Championships in 2022 and 2023 and was named WCC Coxswain of the Year for both wins. She was also named team captain her Senior year. In the Summer of 2023, she served as an assistant coach at the 9th Seat Coxswain Leadership Camp.

"I am excited to join the Toreros and contribute to this driven coaching staff and team," said Hawes. "I'm looking forward to coaching a group of athletes that I have competed previously against on the race course, and further developing this highly competitive team."
